The American Dream is defined as the ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved.
But how does this vision of equality apply to India, where the seeds of a highly unequal caste system were sown 3520 years ago?
Despite the abolishment of the caste system in India 7 decades ago, the systems of inequality are still deeply rooted. But an explosion of consumerism, technology, liberalism and capitalism has fueled a new kind of lifestyle the citizens of this nation have never experienced before.
Millions of Indians have been uplifted from close-to-poverty levels to middle-class citizens living the Indian Dream. This dream has evolved from a meeting of bare necessities to one where individuals can realize their personal dreams. From 67M Households in 2005, Indiaโs Middle Class has expanded to ~450% to 300M.
Albeit strikingly similar to the American Dream, the Indian Dream is arguably varied in a large number of aspects. This diversity potentially makes The Indian Dream stronger and more powerful and truly a force to reckon with.
